MISSION & VISION

Like generations of Lutherans before us, we at Christ Lutheran Church know ourselves to be simultaneously sinner and saint.  We welcome the doubting and the sure alike, knowing our God is greater than every word that rhymes with God and that we all have more to learn when it comes to living out faith in the Messiah who saves us.

Maya Angelou once wrote, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.” We are always just seeking to do just that—the best we can in the full knowledge that we will never be perfect.

We are imperfect people following the God who is Love: who is uniquely and distinctly apparent in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ Jesus, a first-century Palestinian Jew who knew what it was to be a poor refugee, an immigrant, and a member of an occupied nation.

Our mission at CLC is to live in Christ and share God’s love with all people. We work together to heed Jesus’ call to feed the hungry, to care for our neighbor, treasure the Creation entrusted to us, and to glorify God in all we do.

By the grace of God, we walk together as a community of faith towards a world where the Kingdom of God has come near, where all are fed and housed, seen and known, cherished as beloved creatures of God. Together, we stumble toward the ultimate truth that all are created in the image of God and that through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, we are invited into a sacred, honest, and loving relationship with God, self, neighbor, and Creation.

We value and understand the Christian Bible as our greatest witness to the story of Jesus Christ, sharing with us stories of the people of God and providing us with an incomparable resource for the life of Christian faith.

We have many different opinions and value our diversity as a gift from a caring God. We are a community that seeks to appreciate the perspectives of all ages, backgrounds, and journeys. The one thing we agree on is that there is no one way to be a Christian and that our highest calling is to follow Jesus in loving God, self, neighbor, and Creation.

We strive to preserve the beauty of Lutheran tradition while navigating the pull towards change, seeking to provide worship, education, and service that glorifies God by representing the diverse nature of our community and our world. Worship is distinctly Lutheran (ELCA) in style, culminating in communion each week, where we take in the body and blood of Christ so that we might be the hands and feet of Christ in a suffering world.

We invite you to come find God among us and experience the many opportunities to serve the Ferndale community and beyond through our church.
