The Little Free Library at Christ Lutheran offers a way to share good things to read—favorite books from your childhood or books you would recommend to friends; books that teach, intrigue and engage you. It belongs to everybody – neighbors, friends, and people we don’t even know yet. Anyone can use it. If you see something you would like to read, take it. When done, share it. Return it to our Little Library or pass it on to a friend.

Our Little Free Library was built by Don Lorenz and installed with a blessing on May 14, 2017.  We try to keep it stocked with a variety of books for children and adults of all ages.

There are over 50,000 registered Little Free Library book exchanges in all 50 U.S. states and over 70 countries around the world. A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. Little Library book exchanges function on the honor system; everyone contributes to ensure there are always quality books inside. Next to our Little Free Library is a Free Mini Pantry- a community resource that gives 24/7 access to pre-packaged food items.

A teacher at Ferndale High School shared that every time he went shopping at Costco he would buy a big box of protein bars to hand out to students because so many of them don’t have enough to eat at home.  In response, Christ Lutheran, with the help of a Thrivent Action Grant, put up a Free Mini Pantry that will be stocked with non-perishable food items that are ready to eat and easy to carry.  Christ Lutheran is within walking distance of the school and many students will pass by the pantry on their way to and from school.  Of course, the pantry is not just for students but is available to anyone who is in need of food. We ask everyone to join in this ministry by donating individually wrapped items such as:

Jerky -all kinds
Beef sticks
Beef sticks and cheese
Cheese and crackers
Peanut butter and crackers
Trail mix
Juice boxes
Bottled water

If you want to get more involved you can help with keeping the pantry stocked and the area around the pantry free from litter. Small amounts of items can be left directly in the pantry, and donations in larger quantities can be dropped off during church office hours.
